The NCDC team dropped Saturday’s game to in-state rival, Northern Cyclones. The loss was the 6th one in a row since November 15th. Through a scoreless first period, Kevin Paganini got the team on the board 3:31 into the 2nd with an even strength goal but the Cyclones would answer with a PP goal shortly after. Followed by a goal in the 3rd period which would end the game 2-1.
The first 40 seconds of Sunday’s game did not look promising when the Cyclones Assistant Captain, Zach Rehbaum scored just 33 seconds into the game. Riley Enderle tied the game just under 7 minutes later. “As a team we were giving them good pressure and being persistent in our forecheck and it paid off” Enderle said. “[the tying goal] gave us the boost of confidence and energy that we could get right back in the game and take it over” he continued. After sliding down in the standings during the 6-game losing streak the team finally got back to doing things the Monarchs way and came out on top with a 5-4 OT win at Cyclones Arena. Luke Heimann, who got his first goal of the season and scored the GWG said, “we really needed this, we have been looking for it for a while now.” He continued, “Luckily I was able to get a couple goals by just doing my job on the powerplay, I got a few opportunities and had to capitalize.” Tanner Daniels also helped achieve the win with a shorthanded and even strength goal in the 2nd period.
“To get two points against the current 3rd place team is huge” said Cam Speck. With the energy and morale back up with the team in the locker room Speck said, “we needed a win, especially one where we stayed disciplined in our game plan to give us confidence coming up to a team we have struggled with this season” as the NCDC team heads to Bridgewater, MA to face the Bandits on Wednesday. “If we execute our systems, play with high energy and score like we did on Sunday we’ll be able to climb our way back into the mix of top teams” he finished.
The NCDC team will return home Friday vs Twin City Thunder ($2.00 Drafts Night) and Saturday vs South Shore Kings ($1.00 Hot Dogs Night) before leaving for winter break.
