Recap for week of 1/29 – 2/3

1/29/19 Premier @ Islanders Hockey Club

Premier traveled to Skate 3 to play IHC for the 3rd time this season. In the last 2 matchups Monarchs won in OT (3-2) and 5-1. This game came up on the Monarchs side as they take it 5-2 in Tyngsboro. Spencer DeRidder (5) assisted by Pat McCoy (25) gets the Monarchs on the board first 15:40 into the 1st period. The Islanders would respond 3 minutes later leaving the score 1-1 at the end of the 1st. Jordan Hillman picks up his 12th goal of the season assisted by Rosser (6) making it 2-1, 9 seconds into the 2nd period. Islanders answer back 8:35 into the period on the PP. The 3rd  period all goes to the Monarchs as Jack Engdahl (6) assisted by Kieran Gardner (13) score a PP goal, DeRidder grabs his 6th assisted by Tobias Margus and Pat McCoy (26) at 7:01 and an empty net goal by McCoy assisted by Cameron Barto (4) seals the game 5-2. Justin Damon earns his 10th win of the season turning away 41 out of 43 shots, leaving the Monarchs 3-0 over the Islanders Premier team this season.

1/31/19 Premier hosts Islanders Hockey Club

The Monarchs came up short vs the IHC Premier team falling 4-0. Christian Heller played 36:57 minutes of the game giving up 3 goals, Raphael Gaughn played 23:03 turning away 16/16 shots on net. The Monarchs weren’t able to score on the 7 PPs they were given leaving them 3-1 over the Islanders this season.

2/1/19 Elite Hosts Springfield Pics

The Monarchs Elite team had an offensive explosion vs the Springfield Pics Friday night at home. Balint Pakozdi gets his 27th goal of the season assisted by Mark Kurlyandchik  6:20 into the 1st. Pakozdi scores again at 17:12 assisted by Staif and Sutton. 8 seconds later Matias Alexandrov assisted by Sutton and Pakozdi. With a minute left in the 1st, Pakozdi gets his 29th of the season assisted by Enselmoz and Turcotte. Matias Alexandrov assisted by Kurlyandchik and Conor Mullholand extends it to 4-0, 9:50 into the 2nd. The Monarchs receive an unsportsmanlike minor sending the Pics onto the PP, which they score their only goal of the game on at 10:05 in the 2nd. Alexandrov from Mullholand and Palomales give the Monarchs a 4 goal lead 12:17 into the 2nd. Ladysov by Enselmoz and Kurlyandchik add another one 13 seconds into the 3rd. Kosta and Sutton assisted by Pakozdi, Staif and Schwartz will end the period giving the Monarchs their 28th win – 56 points and 1st in the Northern Division.

2/2/19 NCDC hosts Islanders hockey Club

The NCDC team hosted the Islanders Saturday night, the Monarchs had a rough start to the 1st period. At the end of the 1st the Islanders held a 2-0 lead. Trent DeNuccio (22) scores both Monarchs goals in the 2nd period with assists from Curran (35) on both goals, Gios (2), and Lamoureux (17). The Monarchs score the only 2 goals of the 3rd period, Margus (5) from Hayes (7) and Shaheen (12) from Hayes (8). Pasquale get his 14th win of the season giving up 2 goals on 30 shots.

2/2/19 Premier hosts South Shore Kings

The Premier team falls 4-1 to South Shore Saturday night. Nathan Smiths gets his 8th goal of the season and the only goal from the Monarchs during the game. 6 out of 8 penalties were assessed to the Monarchs, and an empty net goal for South Shore sealed the deal at the end of the 3rd.

2/3/2019 NCDC at Islanders Hockey Club

NCDC falls to the Islanders on the road 6-5 in a 5-round shootout. At the end of the 1st, the Monarchs were ahead of the Islanders 3-2 with goals by Curran from Shay and Borque, Crane from Shaheen, and Tobias Margus from Shaheen. Chris Lee helped extend the lead in the 2nd, scoring his first goal in a Monarchs jersey and the only goal for the Monarchs in the period from Crane and Ferreira. Hayes gives the Monarchs a 5-4 lead until the Islanders, Hunter McCoy ties it up with 4 minutes left in the period. With neither team being able to score in OT, the game went into a 5-round shootout where McCoy scores the GWG for the Islanders. Pasquale stopped 30 out of 35 shots during regulation and now has a record of 14-8-1-2. The Monarchs pick up 3 out of the 4 points possible this weekend and will host the Rockets next Friday (7:10pm) and Saturday (4:30pm.)

2/3/19 Premier hosts Northern Cyclones

The Monarchs trailed 3-0 heading into the 3rd period. Spencer DeRidder gave the Monarchs their first goal of the game on the power play assisted by Mika Briere and Elite team call-up, Balint Pakozdi. Smith (9) from Madrid (5) cut the Cyclones lead 7:29 into the period, but the Cyclones score with just over 5 minutes remaining. Kuraly (10) from Engdahl (15) make it so they Monarchs trail by 1 with 4:13 left but they were unable tie the game. Damon ends the game with a record of 10-3-1-2. The Premier team is now 21-12-1-2 – 5th in New England Division – with 45 points, just a point behind #4 South Shore Kings. They will host #2 Boston Bandits, Tuesday at 12pm followed by the Rochester Monarchs, Friday at 8:00pm and the last regular season home game Sunday at 3:10pm.
