The Monarchs moved into first place in the Northern Division this past weekend with a sweep of the Syracuse Stars, the team that had previously sat atop the division. With wins of 3-2 and 7-3 consecutively the Monarchs extended their current win streak to 9 games.
In Saturday’s game, the first of the series, the Monarchs were paced offensively by Brooks Herrington’s two goals, which included the game winner coming on the powerplay, Herrington’s team-leading sixth of the season. Pat Doherty also scored for the Monarchs when he buried a wrist shot from the off-wing on a 2-on-1 rush. Goaltender Brian Billet continued his stellar play between the pipes stopping 34 of 36 shots, and Boston College recruit Brian Dumoulin added two assists.
Game two of the series would prove to be a high-scoring affair, as the Monarchs would put up 7 goals on 42 shots. A total of six Monarchs players notched multi-point nights, with Aaron Kesselman, Kyle Mountain, Matt Mangene, and Pat Doherty each netting a goal and an assist. Adam Kaiser, and Charlie Mullan had two assists apiece. In all, 13 Monarchs had at least one point in the win.
The Monarchs return to action this week when they face off Thursday night at 7:20 pm at the Wallace Civic Center against the Bridgewater Bandits.
