Hooksett, NH – —Another weekend sweep, which included a Thursday and Monday win on President’s Day, has brought the Monarchs’ win streak to 17 games. More importantly however was a Hitmen loss to the Bay State Breakers on Monday. With the Hitmen losing, the Monarchs now have a chance to finish first overall in the regular season standings. If the team can win their final three games of the season they will edge the Hitmen for the regular season title, a feat that will give them an auto-bid to the National Tournament.
The Monarchs started the weekend with a 7-4 victory on Thursday over the New England Huskies. Five players had 2 points or more in the win, three of those players had 3 points apiece. Saturday’s rematch with the Bay State Breakers would prove to be a hard-fought win, as the game would be knotted at zero heading into the 3rd period. A powerplay goal from Brooks Herrington, and an even strength goal from Kyle Beattie with just over 2 minutes remaining would give the Monarchs the 2-0 win. Sunday’s game against the Valley Jr. Warriors would also prove to be a test to the team’s unbeaten streak, as they would squeak out a 3-1 win on the road. The last game of the four game stretch would pit the Monarchs against the number 2 team in the Southern Division, the Bridgewater Bandits. The Monarchs would jump on the board early, scoring just 1 minute into the game, and never look back with the final score being a 5-0 shutout.
The Monarchs and the Bandits face off again this Thursday to start another 3 game weekend for the team. Saturday they host their Northern Division rivals, the Junior Bruins, and then travel to Tyngboro, MA to finish out their regular season with a game against the New England Huskies.
