Rockland, MA- Brooks Herrington scored two goals and Brian Billett made 25 saves to lead the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs over the Bay State Breakers 3-2 on Saturday.
Josh Harris and the Breakers drew first blood 3:37 into the game when Harris shot from just inside the blue line. Billett got a piece of the puck but it trickled into the net.
Midway through the period, Kyle Beattie executed a beautiful toe drag and then hit Adam Shemansky with a pass on the side of the net. Shemansky then slid the puck along the goal line to Aaron Kesselman, who banged it home to tie the score.
Brooks Herrington scored his first of the game with 8:12 left in the first when he took a pass from Jamie Ferullo at the bottom of the circle and snuck it past Eric Mihalik. Patrick Kiley also assisted on the goal.
Herrington added another goal with 2:31 on the clock when he, Adam Shemansky, and Kyle Beattie took turns firing at the net. Eric Mihalik stopped the initial two shots, but Herrington’s slipped through.
Both Mihalik and Brian Billet played superbly in the second and third periods, making twenty four and thirteen saves, respectively. The only blemish on either goalie’s performance was early in the second period, when Mike Crowder scored a power play goal from James Chamness and Rich Zobak. Neither team scored in the third period.
The Monarchs hit the ice home on Sunday for a 2:00 PM tilt against the Valley Jr. Warriors, while the Breakers will return to action after the holiday on December 5 for a game at Bridgewater.
