Hooksett, NH –Two 6-1 victories over the New York Applecore this past weekend have given the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs their 5th consecutive EJHL Northern Division title.
The wins also gave the team their first victories in over 3 games. The Monarchs had been struggling as of late having lost to the Jr. Bruins and tied both the Pics and the Huskies. It was the team’s 4th road trip in 5 weeks, and it could have easily been a tough one as the Applecore have been at the top of the league standings all year.
The 1st game of the series would be all Monarchs as they would score halfway through the 1st and 2nd periods and then 4 times in the 3rd to take a 6-0 lead, before giving up a goal with just 4 minutes left to beat New York by a score of 6-1.
Game 2 would prove to be all Monarchs as well as the team would prevail by a score of 6-1 again with the lone Applecore goal coming with just 2 minutes remaining in the game.
The line of Zak Stone, Pat Doherty, and Trent Ruffolo would pace the team all weekend, as they would net 7 of the team’s 12 goals, and add 9 assists. Goaltender Brian Billett would post a 97.1% save percentage stopping 52 of 54 shots, and boosting his season save percentage to an amazing 94%.
With 5 regular season games remaining the Monarchs are looking to close the season out on a high note going into the EJHL Playoffs. Their next game will be this Friday when they host the Valley Jr. Warriors at 8 pm at the Tri-Town Ice Arena.
