Hooksett, NH – New Hampshire Jr Monarchs defensemen Brian Dumoulin has decided to take his game to The Heights at Boston College. Brian will arrive there for the fall of 2009 and will be a true freshman, a rarity these days at the collegiate level. The 6’3 defender, who had been sought after by nearly a dozen schools, is a sure bet for this year’s National Hockey League Entry Draft. General Manager and Head Coach Sean Tremblay was pleased about Brian’s decision and offered, “Brian has learned a lot during the last few months and has grown tremendously through this experience. Having just turned seventeen and being thrust into the national spotlight is not an easy situation, especially for a young man from Biddeford, Maine, and I know as it is also my hometown. I am pleased for him to have the opportunity to attend his dream school and know he will have an enormous amount of success on and off the ice at Boston College.”
“I felt Boston College was the right fit for me both academically and athletically and I really love the location of the school,” stated Brian Dumoulin. “The talent they have and their ability to make players better was a huge factor in my decision. The players on the team are great and made me feel very comfortable to spend the next four years of my life at Boston College. I have a lot to work on in order to make an impact as a true freshmen, but playing for the New Hampshire Jr Monarchs this season will certainly make the transition much easier. Playing Division One college hockey has always been my dream and I cannot thank the Jr Monarchs enough for helping me realize that dream and for all they will continue to do for me this season.”
“It is nice to know that Brian can now put all of this behind him and focus on getting prepared for next season,” stated Coach Tremblay. “His upside is amazing as he reminds me of a Ryan Whitney type of player. He possesses great size and has a phenomenal stick. As he matures he will only get stronger and become a force on both sides of the puck. It certainly has been a great ride the last six months for Brian having won a state high school championship, signing to play for the defending National Jr Champions, earning a berth on the United States Under 18 Select Team, and now committing to play for the defending NCAA National Champions. Even though all of that is great, I have a feeling it is only the beginning of a storied career for this young man.”
Brian is the son of Peter and Deborah Dumoulin of Biddeford, Maine.
