Dumoulin taken by ‘Canes in 2nd Round

Hooksett, NH – A whirlwind season for defenseman Brian Dumoulin which began in August with his selection to the US U-17 team, and subsequent scholarship offer from Boston College, has culminated in his being drafted 51st overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Dumoulin, like many other NHL hopefuls, made the trek two weekends ago to the Montreal Canadiens’ Bell Centre: the site of this year’s draft. Brian had been previously listed at #61 in the Central Scouting Bureau’s Final Ranking, but made the jump 10 spots into the 2nd round. The leap to #51 could have been due to his stellar performance at the recent predraft scouting combine held in May. While at the combine Brian registered the widest wingspan, lowest percentage of body fat, and had one of the highest vertical leaps.

An ecstatic Dumoulin stated, “I’d like to say thank you to the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs organization. Coach Tremblay and Coach Dennehy helped to develop me into a Division 1 college player and potential NHL player. I thank them for all their hard work and dedication.” Brian went on to say, “I’d also like to thank my teammates for pushing me day in and day out to reach my maximum potential. Without them pushing me and keeping me focused on my goals, this day may never have come.”

Dumoulin will be heading to Boston College this fall, where he will undoubtedly be able to develop as a player even more. While at the Heights, he will be playing for one of the premier college hockey programs in the country, but more importantly, he will be playing under one of the premier coaching staffs in the country as well. Coaches York, Cavanaugh, Brown, and Logue will make it their goal to push Brian everyday to reach his fullest potential both on the ice and off.

Brian certainly knows what he has to do to make his dream of being an NHL defenseman a reality. “It was certainly an honor to hear my name selected at the draft but it is just a start. I’m going to have to work even harder just to have a chance to reach the NHL never reach my goals of being an impact player in the NHL.”
