Cornell to attend Bentley

The New Hampshire Junior Monarchs are pleased to announce that Mike Cornell, co-captain of this year’s team has committed to Bentley College for the fall of 2009.

“I am very excited as both a player and a student to have the opportunity to attend a school as prestigious as Bentley College. I am looking forward to playing under such well-respected coaches as Coach Soderquist and Coach White.” remarked Cornell, “I am very grateful to them as a staff for allowing me the chance to play at the Division 1 level.”

Cornell came to the Monarchs from the South Shore Kings program, where he spent three seasons, and was the captain of that team last year. “Mike is a strong, physical defenseman, who can play in any situation. His ability to get hard, accurate shots through from the blueline has made him a vital part of the Monarchs’ power play.” states Coach Tremblay, “Mike has been a great addition to this year’s team in every way imaginable. He brings a wealth of experience, leadership, skill, and passion to our lineup every night. We are very proud of Mike, and we know that he will do well at the next level, as a result of his tremendous work ethic, and his love for the game.”

Cornell went on to say, “It has always been a goal of mine to play at the Division I level, and junior hockey has allowed me the chance to do that as well as attend a great academic institute. I cannot thank Coach Tremblay and Coach Dennehy enough for their continued efforts and support. I’ve been very lucky throughout my time in the EJHL to have come across some great coaches, trainers, teammates, and people, both in South Shore and in New Hampshire, and I’d like to thank them as well. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my family and friends without whom I may never had this chance.”

Cornell is a resident of Franklin, MA and is the oldest son of Alan and Gerry Cornell.
